The Nunan Estate ReviewOn this sprawling 3 1/2-acre estate on the edge of Jacksonville, you will find the most over-the-top gorgeous Victorian home in southern Oregon. Better still, you can book a room in the historic home and lounge in the lap of Victorian excess. Built by Jeremiah Nunan in 1892 as a Christmas present for his wife, the house is all porches and gables and turrets and pergolas. Inside, burnished wooden floors reflect colored light streaming through stained-glass windows. Antique furnishings, heavy draperies, and period wallpaper capture the essence of the Victorian era. If you prefer modern amenities, there are also large rooms in the adjacent carriage house. With a restaurant on the estate, you hardly need leave the grounds other than to attend a performance of the Britt Festivals. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
