Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Review

From the 900 acres of Jasper Park Lodge's wooded, elk-inhabited grounds along Lac Beauvert, to the central lodge's lofty ceilings and huge, cozy fireplaces, Jasper's most exclusive lodging lives up to its name. The Jasper Park Lodge, located about 8km (5 miles) east of Jasper proper, was built by the Canadian Pacific Railroad and still retains a feel of woodsy gentility. Guests treat themselves to dinner at the Edith Cavell dining room, where, as in the rest of the hotel, almost nothing is left to be desired by the bend-over-backward service. The decor is something of a puzzle, but an enjoyable one, as accommodations are a mix of cabins, lodge rooms, chalets, and cottages -- all chosen from different eras and styles. Call and let the staff walk you through the room that will suit your budget and needs; you're certainly paying enough for the privilege. For groups, there are housekeeping cabins, some of which have up to eight well-appointed bedrooms.

Facilities: 9 restaurants, including the 4-star Edith Cavell Dining Room and the Moose's Nook Northern Grill; 3 lounges; heated outdoor pool; one of Canada's finest golf courses -- Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course; tennis courts; health club; canoe, paddle-boat, and bike rentals; children's center; concierge; tour desk; business center; shopping arcade; 24-hr. room service; babysitting; laundry service; same-day dry cleaning; horseback riding

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
