The prettiest restaurant in the Old City is housed in a newly restored room with exposed stone walls, Crusader-era arched ceilings, an indoor fountain, rustic wooden tables, and panels of hand-painted Armenian tiles that are a feast for the eye. The home-style food is prepared with special Armenian herbs and seasonings that give each dish a slightly novel taste. Inexpensive appetizers are great here -- choose from delicate home-style meat pizzas (small but delicious) and a range of cold salads, soups, and stuffed vegetables. The pepper salad and the cucumber-and-yogurt salad are excellent. Main courses are mildly exotic and always delicious. Friday nights, special traditional dishes are brought in from the kitchen of the owner's and neighboring family's homes -- you can have a fine home-style feast. Background music is Armenian and Greek. Wine and beer, rarities in Old City restaurants, are added attractions.
