Frommer's Review
The country-style stone terrace and stone-walled pavilion of this restaurant provide fabulous views; and the food, prepared by owner Yakki Cohen, is rustic and quite good. This is one of the very few kosher restaurants in the country with kashrut certificates for both meat and dairy meals. If you give at least 2 days notice and bring a large enough party, Mr. Cohen can prepare a complete shepherd's feast of lamb cooked with wild thyme, rosemary, hyssop, basil, and oregano for NIS 248 ($55) per person. Otherwise, the ever-changing menu might start out with homemade bread, an assortment of Middle Eastern salads, fresh vegetables, and country cheeses, followed by a sumac- and dill-covered baked trout with vegetables and stuffed baked potato. A smaller meal of soup and salad combined with the view will be very affordable and memorable. As everything is cooked slowly on coals, allow at least 1 1/2 hours for chicken or fish. You can call ahead to get your meal started, or, while you wait, enjoy the views of the restaurant's fabulous herb garden, or take an hour-long donkey ride around the area for around NIS 68 ($15). Best to visit in the daylight hours, when you can enjoy the view and the winding roads are easier to handle.
