A Room With A View & A Hundred Angels

Part baroque fantasy, part neoclassical brick mansion, this over-the-top faux-Tuscan manor offers exactly what the name suggests: good views, mostly toward the Melville Koppies, and plenty of cherub statues. It's sounds garish, but somehow it works, with tall picture windows, in-room columns and archways, plush linens, conservatories, and fireplaces (and great showers). Book on the upper floor -- these have the loveliest views -- and in winter ask for a fireplace. The largest rooms are nos. 21, 32, and 33; nos. 22 and 23 have gorgeous views. Melville offers an array of restaurants, live music venues, and shops within walking distance: Host Lise Wallis is happy to make dining recommendations and will also chat about local art and recent developments in the city. They will also arrange transfers for a night on the town.
