The Peech Hotel

This fabulous little "hotel," set in a tree-filled, upscale neighborhood, was opened in early 2005 by James Peech, a young creative type from Yorkshire. Swish and sexy, it's clearly styled on the pages of Wallpaper, and the ideal hangout for trendy travelers. The emphasis is on in-room comfort (king-size beds, soft white linen, ultracomfortable mattresses); animal-hide rugs decorate the wooden floors, and large bathrooms with "raindance" showers are a genuine treat. The suite above the lobby is a good deal if you value a larger space, while the eight garden units have either a small terrace or direct access to the lawn. There are thoughtful touches too, like filter coffee and your own French press in the room, glass bottles of mineral water, and a sound dock for your iPod). Wholesome breakfasts served at the edge of the lovely garden are an ideal way to prepare for Jo'burg, and while Bistro@The Peech offers in-house dining, reports from readers have not been favorable; for now, dine out. This is a great place to base yourself for indulgent nights out on the town (staff will happily arrange transport to restaurants, theaters, and clubs), and you can work off the guilt at the massive gym next door (it's open around-the-clock and Peech guests get discounted rates).
