Near Westport's nightlife but far enough away for a good night's sleep, this locally owned hotel is way ahead of the game when it comes to being green. Recently renovated with almost entirely recycled materials, it uses energy-saving light bulbs and water devices, chemical-free cleaning agents, and recycled products for almost all its needs (from toilet paper to office printing paper); takes all glass, paper, and other waste (including that generated by guests) to a recycling center; employs bulk dispensers for shampoo in guest bathrooms; and offers bikes and free shuttle to area attractions in a hybrid car. Yet the hotel doesn't scrimp on amenities, providing free breakfast and evening cocktails, free Wi-Fi and local calls, and soothing, unfussy rooms. Perhaps someday all hotels will be as environmentally friendly as this.
