In case you have to face a trivia question, the site of this hotel was famous in the 18th and 19th centuries as Sweden's biggest marketplace for horse trading. Today it's the best value hotel in town. Once again, to save money you have to leave the grand old dames of the historic core and head slightly out of town -- in this case to a triangle of land 1.5km (1 mile) away that abuts the E18 highway. The two-story hotel offers internationally modern bedrooms outfitted with angular, motel-style furniture that's comfortable but not particularly plush. The owners are a Swedish-Greek team headed by members of the Apostolidi family. There's a bowling alley on-site, under separate management.
