Frommer's Review
This is one of Kauai's newer sensations, located right on the highway, next to Taco Bell, where fans line up for the happy-hour pupu and affordable, tasty fare. Coconuts is upbeat and busy, with a cheerfully tropical dining room of bamboo ceilings and coconut everything: bar floor, fixtures, furniture, and lights. There are lots of wines by the glass, good beers on tap, and a wide-ranging menu, including the best-selling teriyaki-dipped fresh salmon, a fresh catch for only $19 (oven-roasted, with kaffir lime broth and Okinawa sweet mashed potatoes), and an excellent seafood chowder. The burger with house-made potato chips and crab cakes are also popular. The appetizer menu -- nine items, from coconut dusted shrimp to lobster ravioli -- is a hit from the time the doors open at 4pm.
