Getting There
Over 30 daily trains depart Budapest's Nyugati Station; 12 of them are intercity trains. The fare on IC trains is 2,120 Ft ($11/£6.05) one-way and you are required to pay an additional seat reservation fee of about 770 Ft ($4.20/£2.20). IC trains take 1 1/2 hours. On a regular train, tickets are 1,770 Ft ($9.60/£5.05) and the journey takes 1 3/4 hours, with no reservations or reservation fees required. For 15 minutes, you can save some money.
If you're driving from Budapest, take the M5 motorway south. You will have to pay a highway toll each way.
Visitor Information
The best source of information is Tourinform, at Kossuth tér 1 (tel./fax 76/481-065; www.kecskemet.hu). In summer the office is open Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm; from July to August, it is open Sunday 9am to 1pm as well. In winter the office is open weekdays 8am to 5pm. Pusztatourist, at Szabadság tér 2 (tel. 76/483-493), will be useful if you're planning a side trip to Bugac. It is open Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 9:30am to 12:30pm.
