Adventure Sports

Eclipse Ireland, Blackwater Bridge, Kenmare (www.eclipseireland.com; 064/668-2965), offers a host of high-thrills activities and outdoor fun, including kayaking, archery, raft building, mud surfing, and trekking. It’s not just high-energy activities, either—you can even opt for a session of laughter yoga. See the website for the full list.

Cycling

You could conceivably cycle directly from Kenmare to Killarney National Park (about 13.2km/8 1/2 miles), although the main Ring of Kerry road is narrow, with sharp bends, and can get clogged with tour bus traffic in summer. Ask for alternative cycling routes when you rent bikes, either from Finnegan’s Corner at 37 Henry St., Kenmare (www.finneganscornerkenmare.com; 064/664-1083) or from Eclipse Ireland, Blackwater Bridge, Kenmare (www.eclipseireland.com; 064/668-2965). Rates are around €20 per day.
