The big plus of going on safari with children is their excitement about seeing the animals. On the downside, however, it's sometimes difficult to keep small children quiet when watching game up close, and they may get bored very quickly when there is no animal activity. For this reason most safari companies impose a minimum age limit of 12 years old, and some upmarket safari lodges don't accept children at all. However, there are some operators that specifically organize family safaris. The coastal resorts are very child friendly and good discounts can be had if you opt for a family or adjoining room. Other considerations are that children are prone to sunburn or falling ill with minor stomach upsets, and they must be protected from contracting malaria at all times. Items like diapers, powdered milk, and pureed food are only available in Kenya's major city supermarkets, so you will need to bring enough for the duration of your vacation.
