Frommer's Review
Constructed in the late 1880s, two former private residences have been skillfully converted into this well-run hotel. The houses were built to take full advantage of mountain and lake views. A veranda, balconies, turrets, and bay windows characterize the architecture. A 5-minute walk from the center of town, the house is furnished in a traditional British way. All the bedrooms are nonsmoking, good size, and handsomely decorated, many with bay windows where you can sit and soak up the view. Each unit comes with a well-maintained private bathroom with shower. The most magnificent room is the spacious and elegant Woodford Room with a four-poster bed and raised seating area. The main dining room is elegant yet informal with daily changing menus, using, whenever possible, the best of local produce, such as Borrowdale salmon.
