Frommer's Review

The innkeepers here do a fine job making this inn, with nearly 100 rooms, feel smaller and more intimate than that. Great attention is paid to service and detail; the staff has even been spotted brushing off guests' car windows after a snow. The lodge, set back slightly from busy Route 4, has retro ski-chalet charm dating from the original construction -- note the sunken conversation pit with its two-sided fireplace and a spiral staircase twisting up to a second level. Guest rooms vary, but all are nicely furnished -- a few suites even come equipped with wet bars, refrigerators, and Jacuzzis. The indoor lap pool is lovely, and there's a pond on which you can take fly-fishing lessons and practice casting; two reading rooms to hang out in; and a small mountain biking center for rentals or guided tours through the hills. Watch for off-season room specials.

Facilities:
2 restaurants; indoor pool; 8 tennis courts; fitness room; Jacuzzi; sauna; 2 game rooms; children's center; concierge; shuttle (ski season only); limited room service; babysitting; laundry service; dry cleaning

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
