Getting There -- Kirkjubæjarklaustur lies along Route 1, 73km (45 miles) northeast of Vík and 259km (161 miles) from Reykjavík. In summer two buses per day connect Reykjavík and Höfn via the Ring Road, stopping at Kirkjubæjarklaustur. The direct route is maintained by Þingvallaleið (tel. 511-2600; www.bustravel.is), and the route with sightseeing stops is handled by Reykjavík Excursions (tel. 562-1011; www.re.is). From mid-June to early September, Reykjavík Excursions also connects Reykjavík to Kirkjubæjarklaustur and Skaftafell daily through the interior Landmannalaugar/Fjallabak route.

Visitor Information -- Kirkjubæjarklaustur's tourist information office (tel. 487-4620) is in the N1 gas station near the main roundabout on the Ring Road. Opening times are June to August on Monday to Saturday from 9am to 9pm and Sun 10am to 9pm.
