Planning a Trip

Getting There -- The easiest but costliest method to get here is to take a flight from Phuket on Destination Air (tel. 07632-8637-9; fax 07632-8598, www.destinationair.com) whose fleet of amphibious Cessnas fly regularly in high season to resort islands like Phi Phi. The journey takes just under half an hour. These run from both Phuket and Krabi. Boats from the pier in central Krabi Town run three times daily (10am, 2:30pm, and 4pm or more in high season) and cost from 300B (US$8.60/£4.60).

From Phuket, there are a number of ferry services leaving from the Ratchada (Rasada) Pier near Phuket Town, at 8:30am and 1:30pm, with rates as low as 450B (US$13/£6.95) for the 2-hour trip. Be sure to check out where the lifejackets are stashed as several Phi Phi ferries sank during 2007, fortunately with no serious injuries.
