The most visible nighttime venue is the Casino Barrière de La Baule, 24 esplanade de Lucien Barrière (tel. 02-40-11-48-28). Some areas are stylish, but it can't compete with the glamour of Deauville. Entrance to the slot machine area, open daily from 10am to 4am, is free. This section is open daily 9pm to 4am. The casino has a brasserie that serves lunch and dinner daily, as well as a sometimes-crowded disco, L'Indiana (tel. 02-40-11-48-28), open year-round Tuesday through Saturday midnight to 6am. The cover is 11€ ($16) and includes a drink.
Le Théâtre, 10 av. Pavie (tel. 02-40-60-41-00), is the biggest, splashiest disco in town, noteworthy for the phallic-looking pillar rising from the big dance floor. It's close to the casino, in the heart of La Baule's resort neighborhood. From June to September it's open nightly from 11pm to 4am. The rest of the year, it's open only Thursday through Sunday (same hours).
A stroll down avenue du Général-de-Gaulle or avenue Maréchale-de-Lattre-de-Tassigny will uncover any number of interesting bars and pubs. Newcomers feel welcome at Le Bax, 12 av. de Pavie (tel. 02-40-60-90-00), a cozy environment that survives despite the seasonal clientele. Other choices include Klimt Café, 157 av. du Général-de-Gaulle (tel. 02-40-24-14-46), and Le Sailor, 305 av. Maréchale-de-Lattre-de-Tassigny (tel. 02-40-60-24-49). Antidote, 104 av. du Général-de-Gaulle (tel. 02-40-11-04-03), is open only June through September.
