Palace Hotel Villa Cortine ReviewThis is clearly something special: You enter the gates and drive around a statue-lined lily pond lorded over by Neptune to a snaking, cypress-lined road that ends at a Palladian villa. Actually, it was built only in the early 20th century (the main hotel core behind it was added in 1957) by a German count who was forcibly repatriated back north of the Alps during World War I, but its neoclassical grandeur is nonetheless impressive for it. The small gravel parking lot is packed with luxury automobiles and limited-edition sports cars. There are views across the trees to the lake below, where there is a private beach with a motorboat launch. The staff prides itself on personalized service. The decor is a quirky mix of styles ranging from Renaissance and baroque to Empire and neoclassical, all of it terribly elegant and refined. Guests enjoy breezy meals on the colonnaded flagstone terrace and access to a landscaped 4.8-hectare (12-acre) park. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
