Frommer's Review

The name translates to King's Palace, but in reality this hotel, which is housed in a 1940s former apartment building, feels more like a small, midrange European hotel. All the rooms have bright red carpeting and dark wood furniture. The doubles have two king-size beds, a large dressing table, a small table with two chairs, and enough open space to throw all your dirty clothes on the floor. The suites have separate sitting areas with velvety armchairs; some also have Jacuzzis. For the most part, the bathrooms are spacious. The higher floors have good views of the city, but the lower floors are quite dark because nearby buildings prevent any light from entering the rooms. Note that the elevator stops at the seventh floor, so guests with rooms on the eighth floor have to walk up a flight of stairs. I have to give the hotel points for its location -- it's only about 2 blocks from the action of the Prado, but it's on a quiet street that feels millions of miles away. If you're staying longer than a month, the daily rate goes down to $45 for a room for two people.
