Lavenham Priory ReviewThe Tudor age lives again in this building dating from the 13th century and once owned by Benedictine monks. In time, the mansion became the property of the earls of Oxford before being sold to rich cloth merchants. Today it's been restored to its appearance during its Elizabethan period. The timber-framed house has been beautifully restored and sensitively modernized to offer guests grand comfort. An oak Jacobean staircase leads to the bedchambers featuring four-posters, Tudor wall paintings, and oak floors. Each room is furnished individually. You can enjoy a chair by an inglenook fireplace or order a summer breakfast in the herb garden. The hotel stands in 1.2 hectares (3 acres) of grounds in the center of the village. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
