Planning a Trip

Getting There -- Passengers arriving in Le Puy from anywhere in Europe must change trains at St-Georges d'Aurac. From there, 10 small trains, timed for convenient connections, travel along the 28km (17-mile) spur route that connects Le Puy's railway station to the rest of the lines of the SNCF. For information, call tel. 36-35 or 08-92-35-35-35. Bus service is of use only in and out of the small villages in the Auvergne. Even buses from Clermont-Ferrand take at least 3 hours to cover the relatively short distance. For bus information, contact La Gare Routière at tel. 04-71-07-42-36. If you're driving, the best way to reach Le Puy is from St-Etienne, traveling southwest along N88. From Clermont-Ferrand, drive south along N88 to Lempdes, continuing southeast along N102 to Le Puy.

Visitor Information -- The Office de Tourisme is on place du Clauzel near La Mairie (town hall; tel. 04-71-09-38-41; fax 04-71-05-22-62; www.ot-lepuyenvelay.fr).
