Oustaù de Baumanière ReviewThis Relais & Châteaux is one of southern France's legendary hotels. Raymond Thuilier bought the 14th-century farmhouse in 1945 and, by the 1950s it was a rendezvous point for the glitterati. Managed today by its founder's grandson, it's no longer as glitzy, but the three stone houses draped in flowering vines are still charming. The plush rooms evoke the 16th and 17th centuries. No two units are alike, although all contain large sitting areas. If the main building has no vacancies, the hotel will assign you to one of the annexes. Request Le Manoir, the most appealing. In the stone-vaulted dining room, the chef serves specialties such as ravioli of truffles with leeks, rossini (stuffed with foie gras) of veal with fresh truffles, and roast duckling with olives. The award-winning gigot d'agneau (lamb) en croûte has become this place's trademark. Fixed-price menus cost 120€ to 175€. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
