Planning a Trip

Getting There -- From New York City, follow the Hutchinson River Parkway to I-684 north to I-84 east, taking exit 7 onto Route 7 north. Continue on Route 7 for New Milford, Kent, West Cornwall, and Canaan. For Washington Depot, New Preston, and Litchfield, branch off onto Route 202 at New Milford. An especially attractive entrance into the region is Route 44 from the Taconic Parkway, through Millerton and into Lakeville and Salisbury.

From Boston, take the Massachusetts Turnpike west to the Lee exit, picking up Route 7 south from nearby Stockbridge.

Visitor Information -- The useful 40-page Unwind brochure is produced by the Northwest Connecticut Convention & Visitors Bureau (tel. 800/663-1273; www.litchfieldhills.com).
