Southern Cross Club ReviewOpened in 1959, this was the first resort ever on Little Cayman. The inn, which attracts divers and fishermen, must be doing something right, considering that two-thirds of the patrons are repeat customers -- the highest such rate anywhere in the Cayman Islands. On the southern side of Little Cayman, the resort lies to the southeast of Booby Pond, opening onto Head O' Bay, with the offshore Owen Island clearly visible. The Southern Cross is named after the constellation, which can be seen here on a clear winter's night. The rooms open onto 240m (787 ft.) of golden sands. Accommodations are in comfortably furnished one-bedroom cottages, with one unit containing two bedrooms. Bedrooms are decorated in a simple Caribbean style, and each has a sitting room and a small bathroom. This resort is among the very best for fishing, with two boats -- one deep-sea, one flat -- for deep-sea fishing or fishing in the lake. No more than 12 divers go out at one time in the resort's dive boat. Bikes and kayaks are provided free. Hotel guests, islanders, and visitors patronize the restaurant and bar, making this one of Little Cayman's few nightlife spots. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
