In a double-fronted Georgian house, close to the Philharmonic Hall, this enticing restaurant, among the best in Liverpool, gives you a ground-floor restaurant, a basement cafe, and bar. It's really like a brasserie you'd find on the Continent. For the most part, the food is light in texture and full of flavor. A certain robustness permeates the cuisine. Well-crafted mains include chargrilled portobello mushrooms with a butternut squash purée; pan-seared calves' liver with pancetta and balsamic baby onions, or Colchester oysters on ice flavored with shallots and white-wine vinegar.
