Frommer's Review
In a double-fronted Georgian house, close to the Philharmonic Hall, this enticing restaurant, among the best in Liverpool, gives you both a ground-floor restaurant and a basement cafe, and bar. It's really like a brasserie you'd find on the Continent. For the most part, the food is light in texture and full of flavor. A certain robustness permeates the cuisine. Vegetarians are attracted to the risotto of roasted butternut squash with baby vine tomatoes, Parmesan shavings, and an arugula pesto. Other good-tasting mains to sample include loin of saddleback pork served with honey-roasted parsnips or the rump of Lakeland lamb with a ragout of French lentils. Fresh mussels are served in a rich sauce of fennel, tomato, and saffron. Desserts are classics such as a lemon tart with vanilla mascarpone or hot chocolate fondant with white chocolate ice cream.
