Frommer's Review
This converted carriage house, constructed to evoke a palace in Venice, is Liverpool's first boutique hotel -- and it's our preferred stopover. Perched on a hill with panoramic views, it stands across from the home of the Liverpool Philharmonic. Exposed brickwork and cast-iron columns from the mid-19th century, along with exposed beam ceilings and waxed oaken floors, create a warm, cozy atmosphere, evocative of Liverpool's shipbuilding past. Each room is beautifully furnished with oversize beds, Egyptian cotton sheets, radiant heat, and natural light, along with custom-made cherrywood furniture. In the private bathroom, we love the "rain dance showerheads" the size of dinner plates. The on-site bar is the town's most sophisticated, often a venue for visiting celebs, and the London Carriage Works is separately recommended.
