All the inns reviewed here serve food, but you should call for a reservation. In addition, you can try local joints, such as the Forest, Queen's Highway, Miley's (tel. 242/337-3287), lying south of Clarence Town. Its cracked conch is the island's finest, and you can also order the standard grouper fingers or barbecued chicken. The bar is made of seashells. On Friday nights, a live band plays for dancing, and the Forest becomes an island hot spot.

One of our favorite stopovers here is at a little roadside dive called Max's Conch Grill, Deadman's Cay (tel. 242/337-0056), which also serves some of the best conch on the island. Daily specials are also posted.
