Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort Review

This cozy nest has become the island's most luxurious resort, taking over the position long held by Stella Maris Resort Club. Two-room cottages are centered around a clubhouse, and the entire complex opens onto a stunning 6.5km (4-mile) strip of white sand. All units are only 18m (59 ft.) from the beach, where the snorkeling is great. Bedrooms have an airy, tropical feel, with marble floors and tasteful rattan furniture. As part of a multimillion-dollar development, the resort in 2006 added eight beachfront villas, each with luxury appointments such as jetted tubs and Internet service. There's also a screened-in porch with ceiling fans so you can enjoy the outdoors without the mosquitoes (the curse of the Southern Bahamas). The place is ideal for families, and several accommodations are configured so that children can have a separate bedroom. The hotel's 65-seat restaurant is also good, serving tasty Bahamian, North American, and seafood dishes.

Facilities:
Restaurant; bar; babysitting; bikes; exercise room; TV room; watersports equipment/rentals; Wi-Fi (free in TV room)

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
