Ensconced in a tiny (but remodeled) storefront on Venice Beach’s main shopping strip is a true L.A. bargain. The best tables are tucked away on the trellised outdoor patio, but no matter where you sit, you’ll enjoy the prices as much as the varied upscale fare such as crispy, anise-flavored sweetbreads, rock shrimp-filled zucchini flowers, and roasted king salmon. The set three-course lunch is a great deal, and brunch is among the best in town, with a wide variety of choices such as a green chili and turkey chorizo breakfast burrito, pan-seared salmon with curried carrot puree and crispy Swiss chard, or red wine-braised short rib hash with roasted red potatoes and fried eggs.
