A lush courtyard with a tiled fountain and koi pond, low lighting (and noise level) and rustic Mediterranean cuisine make this hidden converted cottage one of L.A.’s most romantic restaurants. Stepping through that unobtrusive (and unsigned) wooden door seems to drop you into a European estate from an earlier era to feast on duck liver, black truffle and port wine mousse, followed rosemary mustard-crusted rack of lamb in Madeira and smoked garlic jus in one of four dining areas (if you can’t get the courtyard, try for the quiet back room by the fireplace). Another fantastic dish is the Couscous Royale with lamb stew, chicken and sausage. Know going in that it’s expensive, and some of the servers have perfected that famous French condescension. But when everything comes together on a warm summer night, there’s no better place for romance.
