This “new” branch (opened 2001) of the iconic Berkeley store is the place for music junkies, in large part because of its knowledgeable staff. Its huge assortment of music and movies goes well beyond the mainstream; though the stock changes daily as the store buys and sells, it’s unlikely you can think of any music or movie, new or used, that you won’t find here. Genres range from top 40 through underground rock and electronica to jazz and classical. Amoeba has the largest selection of vinyl on the planet—even 78s, and can sell you a turntable to play them on. It’s also a trove of vintage and current concert and movie posters.
