Review of Sony Pictures Studio TourAlthough it doesn't have quite the same historical cachet as Warner Brothers or Paramount, a lot of movie history was made at this Culver City lot. Four scenes from the Wizard of Oz were filmed here when it was MGM Studios, and although the Yellow Brick Road once ran through the lot, it's no longer there. What you will see on the 2-hour walking tour: sets currently in production, and an opportunity to drop in on the new Jeopardy! set (updated in 2009 for its 25th anniversary) or Wheel of Fortune when they aren't filming or on hiatus. But the main reason for the tour is the chance to catch a glimpse at the stars who work here (it's one of the busiest studio lots in the world). Tours depart from the Sony Pictures Plaza; be sure to call ahead and make a reservation. Note: Photo ID is required of all guests. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
