Chaya Brasserie ReviewOpen for more than 25 years, Chaya is still one of Los Angeles's most reliable restaurants. This Continental bistro with Asian overtones is popular with film agents during lunch and a particularly beautiful assembly of stars at night. The place is loved for its high-concept East/West dishes, unpretentious atmosphere, and attractive waitstaff. Despite a high noise level and odd Motown/rock soundtrack, the stage-lit dining room feels sensuous and swoony. On warm afternoons and evenings, the best tables are on the outside terrace, overlooking the busy street, but I prefer the interior. The best way to order is off the three- or five-course tasting menu, though there are gems in the a la carte section, such as smoky yellowtail mole. Porcini risotto utilizes organic farro to get earthy effect. Black Angus beef filet is nicely salted and served with a subtle bone marrow jus and wasabi potato puree. Note: There's also a Chaya near the beach, Chaya Venice (110 Navy St., Venice; tel. 310/396-1179), and the splashy newest location at the City National Plaza (525 S. Flower St., Downtown; tel. 213/236-9577). Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Please be sure to confirm all rates and details directly with the companies in question before planning your trip.

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
