The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey ReviewIf you're a watercraft cognoscenti and desire a serene view of more than 5,000 beautiful sailboats and yachts from your private balcony, this is the hotel for you. But it's also business-traveler friendly and not too far from LAX. In typical Ritz-Carlton fashion, the hotel is swathed in soothingly sophisticated decor -- French doors leading to small, private balconies, 32-inch plasma-screen televisions, and comfortable goose-down feather beds. The two top floors make up the Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge, with a dedicated concierge, on-the-house cocktails, and complimentary gourmet spreads all day (including breakfast). Thanks to its marina location, the hotel offers yacht and sailing charters and also reserves several slips for boat-bound customers. Venice Beach is about a 15-minute walk, but it's easier to rent a bicycle from the hotel. Unfortunately, the spa was closed at press time, while the hotel looks for a new wellness-company partner. Tip: Request one of the "27 series" rooms, which are junior suites that are larger and have the best views. The hotel's restaurant, jer-ne (pronounced "journey"), serves California cuisine in a stylishly modern setting. Facilities: Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Please be sure to confirm all rates and details directly with the companies in question before planning your trip.

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
