Frommer's Review
The Sofitel chain has arrived in L.A. with glamour and sophistication to spare. In the heart of L.A.'s Westside, adjacent to Beverly Hills and directly across the street from the Beverly Center, is this upscale, yet comfortable hotel. With the exception of the Euro-beats pumped into the lobby, the Sofitel does everything right. Rooms, though not large, ooze luxury -- the thick carpet, high thread-count linens, and contemporary amenities such as 32-inch plasma TVs, sizeable workspaces, and Wi-Fi connections are sure to make anyone comfortable. Bathrooms are big and include an oversize rain shower, Switchlite glass windows, and plush bathrobes. The decor falls somewhere between old Hollywood glamour and Asian-contemporary -- look for modern furniture with high-gloss fire engine reds and candy apple greens. Suites are even more lavish; they include Bose stereo systems and walk-in closets, as well as flatscreen TVs mounted over soaking tubs in the huge bathrooms. The biggest suite in the house has, in addition to a sizeable bedroom, bathroom, and living area, a full dining space with fireplace, as well as a huge balcony with full bar. We hear rock stars rent the place after playing shows in town. The dimly-lit Stone Rose lounge, a Rande Gerber creation, is an über-trendy spot for late-night cocktails and/or canoodling. The on-site Le Spa offers an abundance of indulgent skin treatments, massages, baths, and manicure/pedicures.
