Frommer's Review
This L.A. landmark building is the last of a vanishing breed of circular hotels from the 1960s and 1970s. Formerly a Holiday Inn, it was bought by the Joie de Vivre hotel group that made its name in San Francisco by revamping tired hotels into hip, modern destinations, and this is the company's first L.A. venture. The location alone is a good reason to stay here: It's perched beside the city's busiest freeway, a short hop from the popular Getty Center and centrally located between the beaches, Beverly Hills, and the San Fernando Valley. Each pie-shaped room comes with a private balcony and double-paned glass to keep most of the freeway din at bay -- think of it as complimentary white noise -- while comfort comes in the form of 300-count Italian linens, feather duvets, and pillow-top mattresses. Little extras like 30-inch plasma TVs, wireless Internet access, ergonomic work stations, and great views add to the panache. Also a hot spot is the 17-story hotel's penthouse-level West supper club and cocktail lounge, the city's first Italian steakhouse. Additional perks include an outdoor pool with cabanas and a fire pit, a lobby-level cafe, and complimentary pickup and drop-off service to the Getty Center, UCLA, and Westwood. Be sure to check the hotel's website to see what package deals are being offered.
