The Lower Hudson Valley, just north of New York City, claims some of the region's most popular sights, including the literary legends and grand estates of Sleepy Hollow, West Point Military Academy, and important Revolutionary War sites. Two of the valley's most picturesque and enjoyable villages, Cold Spring and Nyack, cling to either side of the river, and the scenery, with the rocky Palisades framing the wide expanses of the river, is stunning.
