Frommer's Review
Enjoying the most picturesque setting of any resort in Fiji, this venerable little getaway nestles beside an idyllic, half-moon-shaped beach and looks out on a nearly landlocked body of water, which American owner Richard Evanson has dubbed "the Blue Lagoon". Ceiling fans whirl from the sprawling branches of a baka tree, which shades a dining and entertainment area beside the beach and central building. Supplied by the resort's own garden, the kitchen serves excellent meals dinner-party fashion at a long, polished table in the beachside dining room. If you don't want company, you can dine alone on the beach or on a pontoon floating on the lagoon. The beach turns into a sand bar at low tide, but you can swim and snorkel then off a long pier over the Blue Lagoon. Everything is included in the rates except Hawaiian-style therapeutic massage. A dozen of the superluxe, widely spaced bungalows have two-person spa tubs embedded in the floors of their enormous bedrooms or bathrooms. Much of the furniture is constructed of tree limbs, including four-poster king-size beds equipped with mosquito netting. In a few bungalows, the front porch has a lily pond on one side and a queen-size bed under a roof on the other. A few bungalows are more modest (no spa tubs), but one of these, on a headland with a 360° view of the lagoon and surrounding islands, is the most private of all. Every unit has its own kayaks and a hammock strung between shade trees by the beach. Only couples and singles are accepted here, except during certain family weeks in July and at Christmas. Instead of a phone in your bungalow, you will have a two-way radio to call for room service.
