The Midland Hotel ReviewOne of the Northwest's most famous landmarks, this restored 1903 hotel is where Rolls first met Royce. In the heart of the city, it has been restored to all its Edwardian splendor. Its major architectural features, including a vast open lobby, have been preserved. There is no better spot in Manchester to enjoy high tea than here. Guest rooms are large for the most part and decorated with wood furnishings, some in a dark purple. All the modern gadgets have been installed in this old railway station hotel. Atmospheric lighting, slender columns, and polished marble floors, along with etched glass panels, bring back a bygone age. The on-site restaurant has been much improved, and still remains legendary for refusing entrance to the Beatles, who were turned away "for being inappropriately dressed." | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
