This stylish cafe-lounge/bar-restaurant has carved its own niche within the medina. The Italian owners have come up with a menu of both Italian and Moroccan classics that includes ricotta and spinach cannelloni, carpaccio with shaved Parmesan, lamb roasted with thyme, and oven-cooked vegetables with a cheese fondue. Those looking for coffee and cake can choose from a delectable selection of homemade tarts and cakes; on my last visit the choices included a meringue and cream pavlova with strawberries, and a delectable chocolate soufflé. The staff is young and friendly, and the background lounge music fits the bill perfectly. An open courtyard, closed on cold and wet days and nights, with citrus trees provides shade for the lunch crowd; in the evening fairy lights create romance. To one side of the courtyard is a small fire-engine-red lounge -- one of the few stand-alone bars in the medina -- with thick cushions and mirrored flowers that wind up the high ceiling, and offering an extensive menu of wine and spirits. Passing through the courtyard brings you to a couple of colorful, intimate salons that are perfect for a predinner aperitif, and upstairs you'll find more lounge areas and tables. Topping it off, literally, is a canvas-shaded, cushion-strewn terrace with fantastic medina views that is perfect for a midafternoon mint tea or dinner with a view.
