Riad Kniza Review

This 18th-century riad has been in the family for almost 200 years and offers the complete package of traditional architecture, authentic furnishings, and, above all, overwhelmingly hospitable service. Mohammed Bouskri has "seen it all" as a guide for the past 35 years with clients who have included former U.S. President Richard Nixon, and wife Najat is one of Marrakech's most renowned antiques dealers. The rooms and suites are located on two floors around two open-air courtyards, the smaller of which houses a heated swimming pool and hammam. Two salons come off the main courtyard and are furnished in Oriental antiques and furniture, and each has a fireplace. There are also fireplaces in all but one of the rooms and suites, which are charming combinations of traditional style and modern conveniences, furnished with lush fabrics of ruby satin and creamy silver velvet. The large roof terrace has two shaded areas with lounges and floor cushions and is a popular spot for both breakfast and a candlelit dinner, served by the very professional yet personable English-speaking staff. Riad Kniza, named after their daughter and now managed by son Kamal, is located very close to Bab Doukkala, one of the better-known entrances to the medina, and is an easy 10-minute walk from Jemaa el Fna.

Facilities:
Restaurant; pool; free Wi-Fi throughout.

About Our System

Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.

Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.

The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
