Frommer's Review
Down a quiet lane off one of the main thoroughfares leading to Jemaa el Fna is proof that "budget" and "maison d'hôte" can be happy bedfellows within the medina. Built in 2000 by Mohammed Araban, one of Marrakech's most experienced hoteliers, Jnane Mogador's heavy 19th-century-style front door opens up to a traditionally designed open-top courtyard complete with zellij flooring, a fountain, and overhanging greenery. Rooms of varying size look out over the courtyard, and moucharabieh (veiled windows opening outward) let in fresh air. Earthy, pastel-color walls contrast with the bright, natural-fiber bedspreads. Small, bright, tadelakt-rendered bathrooms, unusual for Moroccan accommodations in this price range, are in every room. The sole Mogador suite is in the same style as the other rooms but is larger with a king-size bed, lounge, private terrace, and air-conditioning.
On the first floor is a small salon with low-lying lounges and a fireplace, and the rooftop terrace looks straight out to the Western High Atlas mountains. Here you can have breakfast (30dh/$3.75/£1.90) under the sun or beneath the covered Moroccan tent. A below-ground hammam and massage room are recent additions. At times the reception area can get quite busy and the staff consequently a trifle gruff, but overall it's a cheery place with a distinct "international traveler" atmosphere. It's often full, so book ahead.
Facilities:
Cafe; hammam; Internet

| 0 stars | Frommer's Recommended | |
| 1 stars | Frommer's Highly Recommended | |
| 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
