The Red House ReviewThis Moroccan-owned and -managed palais d'hôte is in a great location just outside the medina walls in Hivernage. The former mansion is set behind high walls on a large corner block of neatly trimmed grass and extensive gardens; although the traffic can be quite busy outside, it's a total feast for the eyes once you set foot inside. Guests have a private entrance that leads past the large, heated outdoor pool into a grand salon and reception area. Another entrance, which is open for nonguest diners, leads to a grand restaurant. The combined space of these areas is the size of a small medina neighborhood, and you'll see traditional Moorish zellij, gold-edge stucco, tazouakt, white-and-green marble-tile flooring, antique furniture, and heavy Arabic carpets. Some of the rooms are indeed red, while others are in shocking blue or light pastels. The emphasis on luxury extends past the king-size beds and big-screen TVs to the bathrooms, some with both a regular stand-up shower and a separate massage-spray shower. The Imperial is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite with its own large, private balcony, and is perfect for families. The young and attentive staff makes the Red House something special; 44 are on hand to serve a maximum of 18 guests. Breakfast is served until a leisurely 2pm. | 1 stars | Frommer's Highly Recommended | |
| 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
