If you have the time to spare and you are already visiting Palais Longchamp, consider ducking into this museum for a half-hour or so. It is usually visited jointly with a visit to the more important Musée des Beaux-Arts. The museum lies in the right wing of the Palais Longchamp and offers a parade of the fossilized remains of the animals of Provence. The museum illustrates 400 million years of the natural history of Provence in its exhibits, including a safari section that shows the diversity of animals throughout the world. Of special interest to botany lovers is a gallery showcasing regional flora and fauna. On the lowest level, a Mediterranean aquarium is devoted to fish from five oceans.
