Frommer's Review
This is the best in Marseille, with the finest restaurant. The residence opened in 1917 when the Passédat family joined two villas. The narrow approach takes you past what looks like a row of private villas, in a secluded area below the street paralleling the beach. Rooms are decorated with tasteful fabrics and quality carpeting, and all come equipped with fine beds. Units in the main house are modern and even avant-garde -- four units were inspired by cubism and have geometric appointments and bright colors. The spacious Marina Wing across from the main building offers individually decorated rooms in the antique style, opening onto sea views. Marble bathrooms are quite sumptuous and come with deluxe toiletries.
The beautiful glass-enclosed restaurant has a view of the shore and the rocky islands off the coast. In summer, dinner is served in the garden facing the sea. It's run by Gerald Passédat, whose imaginative culinary successes include sliced sea wolf in the style of the Passédat family matriarch, Lucy; vinaigrette of rascasse (hogfish); and sea devil with saffron and garlic.
