Frommer's Review
Trilogy offers my favorite snorkel-sail trips. Hop aboard one of the fleet of custom-built catamarans, from 54 to 64 feet long, for a 9-mile sail from Lahaina Harbor to Lanai's Hulopoe Beach, a terrific marine preserve, for a fun-filled day of sailing, snorkeling, swimming, and whale-watching (in season, of course). This is the only cruise that offers a personalized ground tour of the island, and the only one with rights to take you to Hulopoe Beach. The full-day trip costs $179 for adults, half-price for children ages 3 to 12. Ask about overnighters to Lanai.
Trilogy also offers snorkel-sail trips to Molokini, one of Hawaii's best snorkel spots. This half-day trip leaves from Maalaea Harbor and costs $110 for adults, half-price for kids ages 3 to 12, including breakfast and a barbecue lunch. There's also a late-morning half-day snorkel-sail off Kaanapali Beach for the same price.
These are the most expensive sail-snorkel cruises on Maui, but they're worth every penny. The crews are fun and knowledgeable, and the boats comfortable and well equipped. All trips include breakfast (Mom's homemade cinnamon buns) and a very good barbecue lunch (shipboard on the half-day trip, on land on the Lanai trip). Note, however, that you will be required to wear a flotation device no matter how good your swimming skills are; if this bothers you, go with another outfitter.
Other trips that Trilogy offers are: sailing/snorkeling from Kaanapali to Honolua Bay, with lunch, for $110; a 1 1/2-hour dolphin-watching excursion on a Zodiac for $60; a 2-hour whale-watching trip for $39; and a host of others.
