Frommer's Review
The charm of Gerard's -- soft lighting, Edith Piaf on the sound system, excellent service -- is matched by a menu of uncompromising standards. After more than 2 1/2 decades in Lahaina, Gerard Reversade never runs out of creative offerings, yet stays true to his French roots. Roasted opakapaka with star anise, fennel fondue, and hints of orange and ginger is a stellar entree on a menu of winners. The Kona lobster and avocado salad promises ecstasy, and the spinach salad with scallops is among the finest I've tasted. Gerard's has an excellent appetizer menu, with shiitake and oyster mushrooms in puff pastry, fresh ahi and smoked salmon carpaccio, and a very rich, highly touted escargot ragout with burgundy butter and garlic cream. The restaurant is a frequent winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence and the Wine Enthusiast 2006 Award of Distinction.
