Frommer's Review
I'O is a fantasy of sleek curves and etched glass, co-owned by chef James McDonald. He offers an impressive selection of appetizers (his strong suit) and some lavish Asian-Polynesian interpretations of seafood, such as his "rainbow catch," fresh fish of the day topped with lemon-grass pesto, tomatoes, truffle oil, and goat cheese fondue sauce, or his "scallops ala bondage," scallops wrapped in sage and jalapeño bacon and roasted Japanese eggplant served with a ponzu cream sauce. Unless you're sold on a particular entree, my advice is to go heavy on the superb appetizers, especially the blackened ahi tower (a tower of ahi, avocado, fruit, and tomatoes), shredded pork in a quesadilla with pepper-jack cheese, or the Siamese shashi rolls -- spicy tempura portobello mushroom with an orange-mint dipping sauce. Chef McDonald also owns Pacific'O, and is the chef for The Feast at Lele .
