Frommer's Review
Although Charlie's (named after Charlie P. Woofer, a Great Dane) serves three meals a day, breakfast is really the time to come here. Located in downtown Paia, Charlie's is a cross between a 1960s hippie hangout, a windsurfers' power-breakfast spot, and a honky-tonk bar that gets going after dark. Before you head out to Hana, head to Charlie's for a larger-than-life breakfast (eggs, potatoes, toast, and coffee will set you back only $7). They have plenty of espresso drinks, but the regular coffee is excellent. Lunch is burgers, sandwiches, calzones, and pizza. Dinner is grilled fish and steak -- hearty, but nothing to write home about. You'll see all walks of life here, from visitors on their way to Hana at 7am to buff windsurfers chowing down at noon to Willie Nelson on his way to the bar to play a tune.
