This is one of the most romantic places to stay on Maui, with a panoramic view of the entire island from the front door. Tucked into the side of Haleakala Volcano at 4,000 feet is this old Hawaiian estate with a single-room log cabin (built as a writer's retreat in the early 1900s) and a 35-year-old family home. The writer's cabin has a full kitchen, a fireplace, and antiques galore. The two-bedroom, 2 1/2-bathroom home also has antiques, koa walls, and beautiful eucalyptus floors. It's an ideal retreat for a romantic couple, a family, or two couples traveling together. The 7-acre property is filled with native forest, organic gardens (help yourself to lemons, avocados, and whatever else is ripe), a paddle-tennis court, and a Japanese-style outdoor soaking tub. If you're a dog person, you can also enjoy getting to know the resident golden retriever, Alohi. This is one of the closest accommodations to Haleakala; restaurants are about a 15-minute drive away.
